When We Do That We Sing!
Listen to the farthest sound.
Smell the air.
Notice the taste in your mouth.
Feel your fingers lengthen.
Remember a sense of lifting up.
Imagine there’s a peacock feather erupting
straight out of the top of your head.
Balance it there.
Get yourself organized.
Elongate your torso.
Lift your head from your spine.
It will not fall off if you raise it very high.
Keep your shoulders down and rolled back.
We are walking wind chimes
danglingly ready
to be rung by the divine.
Pause, and breathe in
the possibility of the moment.
Exhale, and surrender yourself
to all good, releasing any distractions.
Breathe in again,
and experience the expansion
of your Spirit,
reflected in why
you are willing
and saying yes right now
to harmony and concord.
Just think a note,
let out your breath,
and there that sound comes!
You don’t make it.
There is no mechanism that snaps into place.
You merely allow conditions
for it to naturally, marvelously transpire.
You are an amazing instrument,
more valuable than a Stradivarius.
Cherish what you are.
Take care of it .
That is your biggest responsibility.
Your greatest privilege
is breathing in and out.
Since you can’t be
the judge
and the doer
at the same time,
don’t be worried about the result.
That’s God’s job;
ours is to dangle,
to think and to breathe,
and the miracle is,
when we do that we sing!
