I’m celebrating the colorful joys of the season! I’ve had a wonderful time recently meeting the owners of these flowers. First, I stopped on a bike ride to photograph moon flowers near a sidewalk. The house happened to be on the market and this accomplished gardener showed off her gardens to me, and took me around back to see her handiwork. She then offered me to have my husband come by and dig up some of her abundant perennials to use in his own garden.
Later, I stopped my car beside the road to catch that last photo of the giant hibiscus, and a matronly Portuguese woman, that spoke almost no English, waved me back to show me her awesome garden. Even though strangers to one another, and with a serious language barrier between us, we both appreciated God’s colorful glory as represented in these blooms, so that we seemed to understand each other just fine on the most important level. She pressed upon me the largest eighteen inch cucumber that I’d ever seen (it looked more like a baseball bat!) which we ate for dinner tonight.
Anyway, most of these flowers are these generous women’s pride and joy and I smile to know there are so easily such big-hearted people in my town. Enjoy their cultivations!
