This morning I delivered my twelve year old homeschooled daughter to a special music composition class at Caramoor (see here). For three Wednesdays in a row, she’ll be treated to a first class concert, followed by several hours of instruction in musical composition. Today my daughter heard Leva Jokubaviciute (see here) play Schubert on the piano, which was phenomenal.
I had been to Caramoor in Katonah, NY only once before fifteen years ago (when tickets were loaned us for a harpsichord concert) but that was at night and we were late and preoccupied. I remember nothing of the setting or grounds. Today I noted that Caramoor’s slogan is “a garden of great music,” and I was enchanted by the setting which you’ll see in these photos. I couldn’t help wondering what it would look like in either good light or when the gardens were in their full glory! But these off-season photographs capture a different sense of the place, which is valid as well. Unfortunately, one is not allowed to take photographs inside, which is a particular shame, as it is even more amazing inside than out. Enjoy, and consider a visit for great music!
