Lean on the Infinite (New Poem by Polly Castor)

Lean on the Infinite, Poem by Polly Castor

Lean on the Infinite

Lean on the infinite.
Slump against it,
barely propped up,
if you must,
or you can do it
jauntily erect,
like James Dean
(without the cigarette)
leaning with one foot
up against it behind you
cool and confident
as a cucumber
on a sweltering day.
You are not doing
today all by yourself.
You have support.
You arrive with
everything you need–
always have done so–
and can effortlessly
bring all that to bear.
The infinite’s grand
qualities and attributes
are solidly within you
and recognized in you
by everyone else
who has them too,
and by the way,
those other people
are also probably leaning.
(It is those few who don’t lean
but zoom off away, jangling
on their own egoistic hubris
we have to worry about.)
But most of us
know we need
to be bolstered up
by our baseline.
And we can rely on it!
It is there for you.
The infinite is where
all the good is going on.
Lean into that,
like your ear
crouching to the rail
can hear the train
coming  from far off.
You’ll know exactly what to say.
You have every bit of energy
you need and more so.
It all surges into you
from the point of contact
where you lean,
so lean in hard;
lean with assurance;
lean with expectancy.
We have a natural rapport
with that infinite;
it is not obscure
or skulking only over
on the distant fringes.
It is our reliable friend,
here and now, intelligent,
powerful, discerning, and loyal.
It knows exactly what you need
and precisely supplies it,
immediately and generously.
It is our Source of all good.
It revives, revitalizes,
reinforces and emboldens,
bringing enthusiasm,
competency, protection,
and ebullient buoyancy.
Let all that and
infinitely more
surge through you.
Let that govern
your being.
Let that sustain you
through it all.
Let that determine
your destiny.
Then today will be
big with blessings.

by Polly Castor
(a riff on a quote by Mary Baker Eddy, “to those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings.”)
