I didn’t post any artwork last week because I’ve been busy painting in oil and it is a slower process. I’ve started four large ones and this is the first one to be finished. I work on oil paintings in the summer, since I do them outside to avoid the fumes, and they dry on our three season screened in porch. It has been a particularly hot spell so this has taken some dedication! No wonder I was drawn to paint cascading water!
Titled, Under the Waterfall, this oil painting is 28″x36″ on stretched canvas. It is of the crashing cavitation at the base of a waterfall. It is a place at once with thundering energy and spontaneous effervescence, but also of prisms and refraction. It is a place that blots out all other white noise, leaving a soul cleansed, refreshed and calm.
You can see the entire image above and close up details of it below.
You can purchase the original painting here.
Or obtain prints or merchandise of this image here. (This would make a lovely yoga mat or a challenging puzzle!)
Can you hear it soothe your soul?

What I see here is also water, but that of a surfer on her board, mastering the seeming chaos and power of a huge wave, with a cleansing of soul, refreshed and calm. Must be a west-coast thing. Waterfall for you, gnarly wave for me.
Kind of reminds me of the children’s motivational “Surfer Chick” book.
