Sometimes cheesy chick-lit is exactly what you want. I call these types of books palette cleaners. I read and listen to a lot of heavy stuff and sometimes I need to balance it off with some fluff. This quick read, which I bought recently at Costco, is indeed undemanding, but I found it very diverting. I completely enjoyed it.

An ordinary looking young woman, who is a skilled agent, is assigned to protect the “sexiest man alive,” who is a famous actor. We get a glimpse into their worlds, and refreshingly, both grow in the process of the novel, which made it worthwhile to me, beyond it just being an escape read.

The Bodyguard is a short, unimportant rom-com, but it is fun. It’s a perfect read for August, when you need to kick back a bit, and not expect too much of yourself. I give it 4 stars.
