Butterflies were everywhere on our recent visit to Monhegan. It was fun to watch them, and I took these reference photos for the painting I was doing there in the gardens (see here). It is amazing to think that these slight, fragile creatures, flew there across the ocean and will fly much further in their migration. No wonder they are fueling up with so much nectar!
