Two Walls, Same Lack of Water

Two Walls, Same Lack of Water

Error keeps
sending out
propaganda.
Take Nehemiah
in the Bible
for example,
trying to do
a good work to
rise up and save
a needed wall
while false news,
malicious intent,
insinuating slurs,
plotted snares, and
underhanded exploits
on secretive,
crooked paths tried to
hinder their endeavor
at every turn
hoping to find them
susceptible, negligent,
distracted, imprudent,
exhausted, exposed,
with their guard
and their wits
down and dulled.
Stories thousands
of years old can seem
contemporary today.
That old story:
of an ethical, virtuous,
exemplary effort to build
a needed wall thwarted
by unscrupulous enemies.
This new story:
a devious, manipulative,
egregious effort
to inflict an odious,
unwanted wall through
trumped up coercion.
Problems look new,
but are just thinly
disguised flip-sided
inverted versions
of the same old
fallacious suppositions.
It is the same story:
error lying,
mistaken, trying
to take the upper hand.
Nothing is new except
this wall is bogus hype,
an anathema,
peddled to those
who unwittingly trust
in pompous vanity.
The alert, just, honest,
and vigilant ones
like Nehemiah
can stand firm
in Truth;
knowing that
right prevailed
in the old story
and can as well
in the new.
This is just a
different mirage
with the same
lack of water.

As Frost has written,” Good fences make good neighbors.” Yet here’s a fence that will work only as an insult, never as a fence.
