This Too Will Melt

Taking photos
early Monday morning
either out windows or from
our front porch as I gape
in my slippers at the magical
snow clad landscape, each branch
defined and emphasized, cloaked
while individual twigs grasp
and lug more fluffy stuff
than you would
think they could.
We’ve had a series of
unimpressive 4-6 inch snows,
leap-frogging across our weeks,
making a checkerboard
of our calendar.

Soon after
getting these photos,
gusts of wind came by
and knocked much of this quiet,
picturesque white stuff down
like feathering a blanket
that we can throw off
as soon as it is
warm enough.

Daylight savings time
occurs next weekend,
along with schools’
spring break commencing.
We have seen the tips
of daffodils coming up
in places. Meanwhile,
it may seem like we are
still in the throws of winter,
enjoying our cozy, hunkered down
cancellations again, escaping
the rigidity of our schedules,
but we expect this too
will soon melt,
and we’ll be back to
busy life again, at full tilt.

Love that hushed, magical moment everything is dressed in white.
