Abstract painter and printmaker Mavis Pusey recently passed on.

Not only do I love her geometric shapes, but so much of her abstraction is inspired by the construction scenes in New York City, which I also spent so many years among, that I resonate with her subject matter, and feel a special affinity for her work.

Born in 1928, only three years younger than my mother, it is inspiring (even belatedly!) to see this excellent, female, black painter start to get some of the recognition she is so throughly deserves.

Click here to read her obituary last week in the New York Times, and check out some of her work here in this post.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves. MAVIS PUSEY ICON.
FYI the last painting, titled Magnetic Fields, is by Mildred Thompson, not Mavis.
