I just dropped my son off at Crystal Lake Camp for two weeks of “Leadership Training” (extended canoe, backpacking & solo trips) to be immediately followed by four weeks as a counselor in training. (My youngest daughter is at camp right now in Colorado – mountain biking and white water rafting – so my husband and I are now home without children for the next eleven days… but who’s counting?)

It seems weird to be intimately involved in all the minutiae of your kid’s lives and then just unplug for a while, let alone six weeks, but I think it will be a good time for all of us.

Crystal Lake Camp is on top of what was once a mountain in Pennsylvania. The mountain laurels were everywhere in bloom…
