Your Innocence Makes You Free (New Poem by Polly Castor)

Our Innocence if our Freedom poem, by Polly Castor

Your Innocence Makes You Free

Your innocence makes you free.
Dependence on divine Love is liberty.

You are a child of God, not in charge,
doted on and provided for,
fed, led and watched over.
You trust that you are upheld–
protected and appreciated,
consistently adored beyond question.
You play hide and seek and peek-a-boo,
chase fireflies, splash in rivers, climb trees,
mess around with finger paint,
ride bikes, and draw chalk cities
for your toy trucks to drive upon.
You cavort with puppies and kittens.
You have not a care in the world,
but see beauty and reasons for joy
all around you, and come home
at the end of each day
to sit in the cushy
lap of Love.

I used to think independence made me free.
I didn’t want anyone dominant over me.

But now I know
it is our own guiltlessness
that determines our self-governance,
which is rooted in our faultless origin,
and grows to bloom in confident certainty
in the reliability of magnanimous,
divine authority.

We are tended
and released
by the truth that
there is no one to blame–
not you, nor me, nor them,
nor our perfectly supreme Parent,
who created each of us out of Love
to relish our precious life.

The shackles fall,
and we see
captivity
as an empty construct
with no captor,
only a waterless mirage,
and existence full instead
with friends and siblings,
no adversaries
to defend against,
with others no different
than ourselves– children
romping and traipsing,
looking for frogs,
singing jump rope songs,
and getting a bedtime story.
Nestle on in,
cozy and unconfined,
without any burden at all.

Good enough reason not to live there. We play with them and appreciate their beauty and song!
