My Endless Source of Inspiration, how to overcome artist's block

Mark Nepo is quoted as saying, “…all artists come alive when discovering God and are stymied when playing God.” This rings true for me.

The people that are hindered with artist block, writer’s block, or crises of faith, are trying to source content within themselves. Contrariwise, on an endless sojourn to discover God, ideas percolate, and inspirations flow unabated. Constantly listening, discerning, perceiving, and extrapolating, there is a continual circulation of thoughts across an infinite matrix of boundless possibilities.

Creatively, I “spend out” each time, whether it is the next poem, painting, blog post, or prayer, knowing the source of unlimited supply is ever at the ready to pour forth whatever is supposed to be next.  Inspiration is something that streams to me and through me, and not ever something I generate or am responsible for. It is a unique combination of blissful freedom with humble obedience, celebrating connectivity with what is beyond me. It is an ongoing, vibrant conversation with the divine.

That is why I love both inspiration and creativity so much; they are two sides of the same golden coin that I am blessed to carry with me. I am eager to find where they lead and what they yield, and I know their result will be as wondrous as their Source, which thankfully is not me.

I am a steward, a water carrier, a caretaker. I stand like a dutiful usher hoping to be of service, delighted to be in alert attendance, thrilled with and open to what the Creator has done, is doing, and will do. I am glad to be present and aware as a witness, then am merely moved to respond out of love and awe.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves. For a day in your courts is better than a thousand.I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of the wicked.
