Women's March 1/21/17 in Photos

I know people all over the world that marched last Saturday for equality, for love, for the earth, for respect, for rights, for representation. The global out pouring is quite staggering, and I am encouraged and moved by it.

And I’d also like to note that most of the people I know are either church people or homeschoolers, both of which have a stereotype of being Republicans, and my Facebook feed blew that misconception (mostly perceived by outsiders) WIDE open. Truly stereotypes and pigeonholes are inaccurate and don’t work.

None of the photos in this post are mine. I was at home, working.

These photos came bursting from my Facebook feed on Saturday evening and are only a small fraction of those shared by my immediate friends. They are screen shots of photos posted by people I know that marched that day. And our son is in one of these shots marching in Washington with his sign stating that the tree of liberty is watered with impassioned discontent…

I knew people all over the world that marched. My friends were among the over 500,000 in Washington D.C, the over 750,000 in L.A., the over 400,000 in New York City, or the over 250,000 in Chicago, not to mention those in Hartford, Boston, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, California, Kansas, Denver, St. Louis, Boise, Oregon, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Florida, the Virgin Islands, Montreal, Vancouver, Bellingham, Toronto, Edinburgh, London, Paris, Oslo, Germany, and Sydney. There were 673 marches in 57 countries around the globe, over 2,600,000 people in all. All those people have friends like me too, who were not there, but share this with them just the same, heart and soul.

The Boston Police Commissioner said that he was “really impressed with the amount of courtesy and respect shown to [his] officers” … and personally thanked “everybody who demonstrated for their peaceful, polite, respectful manner.” Remarkably, in all these world wide marches not one person was arrested.

The photos here are just the tip of the overwhelmingly huge iceberg. I wrote my blog post the day after the election inciting us to Rise Up and Build. I see the buddings of that here, and hope surges in me clear and strong. Now we need to leverage this moment as only a beginning, and avoid sitting back in satisfied complacency.

Thank you so much, each one of you, for stepping out. For every one of you that marched, there are several of me that weren’t there that are still TOTALLY with you in solidarity. God has blessed America with each of you, and history will rain down our praise on your heads. Namaste.

Thank you for these. I have passed them on to a man in Texas who sent me some less wholesome pics from the march in Washington DC that a conservative blog posted, which would likely enflame conservative-leaning voters. These photos combat impressions made by those photos.
