What I Made in Silversmithing

sterling jewelry I made

Here is the sterling silver jewelry I made in my silversmithing class at Creative Arts Camp last September. (You can read more about this class here in a previous post, and see works by other people in the class here.)

First, I made the bracelet below, which was laboriously sawed, filed, sanded and buffed out of a solid piece of silver. I delight that where other people look at their wrist for the time, I see the infinite. I have been wearing it everyday since the class.

The brooch above is a heavy, large piece, that is especially ingenious because I can remove and swap out my original pieces of art in it through a slot in the top. We tried at camp with multiple torches to get it hot enough to solder together to no avail, so after camp it went off to get laser soldered together. I’m so grateful for this help in putting this piece together! I just received it yesterday in the mail and am quite delighted with it as well. I made it for my winter coat, but will find ways to wear it before then. Meanwhile, I’ll start a collection of mini works to display in this way.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves. What a beautiful bracelet Polly! It looks like it is right from the display case at Tiffany’s!
