The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (Movie Review)

We just saw this new NetFlix movie of a book I read back in 2009 titled The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I loved the book back then (see my review of it here), and this movie does not disappoint either.

It is a feel-good tale set in difficult times surrounding the German occupation in the Channel Islands during World War II. The main character, an accomplished woman, chooses heart and home over glitter and glamor, while solving a mysterious intrigue. The actors (some from Downton Abbey) all did a great job and the cinematography of the island is beautiful, making me want to visit.

We need more films like this, and I give it an enthusiastic five stars. I could watch it all over again. You might like it too!

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves. My wife and I loved the movie and noticed the Downton actors. You would also probably enjoy the true story called the Immitation Gang which featured at least 2 Downton actors as well.

I know you have been busy since my last 2 personal messages about meeting you in Boston years ago but just found the yellow envelope I kept if your lovely letter and poems enclosed. I hope you have copies otherwise I am happy to reshare then back to you!

I enjoyed the movie. I listened to the book a year ago on CD’s and it was fabulous! The letters were read by a cast of actors so it was like listening to a play you didn’t want to end.

My husband knows my taste in movies and saw a portion of this movie (had driven me to an appointment and was outside in the car watching videos). He decided not to watch it until we could see it together. I’m so glad he insisted. The title was so crazy, I wasn’t sure about it, but it was just as you say. I, too, would enjoy seeing it again!

I have been to Guernsey and I loved this book when our Bookclub chose it some years ago. It is a beautiful place. I was quite young when I visited but I well remember climbing in to a German bunker!
