Matter doesn't poem by Polly Castor

Progress Dazzles

Uber is the largest
taxi service in the world
without owning a single car.
Airbnb is the largest
purveyor of accommodations
while possessing no real estate.
Facebook is the largest
media mogul
but writes no content.

A computer used to fill a large room.
Now they can be as small as one inch.
Our phones are now cameras and mailboxes,
gaming stations and boomboxes,
GPS systems and appointment calendars,
messengers and social platforms,
a personal network and retrieval portal
to literally any world wide information,
all wrapped into one slim little thing.

We are learning
that matter is less
than ever-presence,
than collective power,
than opportunity,
than intelligence,
ingenuity, and innovation.

Godlike qualities matter.
Matter itself, not so much.

Matter depends on perception.
It is only as concrete
or influential as we think.
When not a projection,
it is a vacuum, a void.

Progress, however, dazzles,
animated with spiritual qualities.
Let’s bring it on!

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves. Matter’s versatile accommodation of increasingly vast stretches of thought is quite as impressive as the thought itself. Perhaps our matter/spirit dichotomy should be questioned. The mystery of particle physics makes the dichotomy sound
    dated.

To me, particle physics confirms matter’s insubstantiality…
