Nine Black and White 8″x8″ Collages

Nine Black and White 8″x8″ Collages

Nine Black and White Collages

I made these nine 8″x8″ collages by first painting a series of solid collage papers in a range of grays from black to white. Then I first did three collages using only the black and white papers. Next I did two collages with only black, white and a mid-tone gray to explore how that gray looked different next to black, or next to white, even though it was exactly the same color. Finally, I allowed myself to use the whole range of values for four more collages, and the possibilities seemed endless, even within these constraints.

This was a fun exercise. As someone who is so devoted to color, I feel it is important in my work to eliminate color from time to time to explore and develop other things like composition, movement, value relationships, and structure.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves.
