New Poem: The Beauty of Poison Ivy

The beauty of poison ivy, poem by Polly Castor, poison ivy photos

The Beauty of Poison Ivy

Why does this stuff exist?
It is such an irritant.
Like mosquitoes.
Or that annoying person
that is always correcting you.
It hurts. And it inflames.
But the mosquito holds up the food chain
by being the perfect bat food.
The persnickety fastidious person
is an awesome asset
when detailed, careful work needs to be done.
And have you ever seen
how gloriously beautiful poison ivy is
turning an early blazing red in the fall?

Wisdom comes with perspective
for good is always here.

Okay at the risk of being that annoying person who is always annoying you, these photos are of Virginia Creeper which has 5 leaves. Poison Ivy has 3 leaves. Virginia Creeper gives me and some people a rash that looks like poison ivy rash but it is worse. Virginia Creeper has really tough roots and is nearly impossible to get out of a garden. If you dig the root out, it breaks when you pull it and then it regrow from root stumps. I had vines going 15 feet underground, it is hard to eradicate.

I stand corrected, but I guess the metaphor still holds!

I concur. However you do have pictures of poison ivy in there except it is green beside the red virginia creeper. I have had a problem with poison ivy, …. a lot of problems and have not yet forgiven it. Also my cats would brush up against it and while I avoided it after my first couple of run ins, cuddling my cats would have the same painful result.

Boo! Still, as I am trying to communicate here, maybe forgiveness is in order and might help.God must have a reason for such creations…

An interesting paradox evoked in few words.
