New Poem: Put Your Hands Up

Polly Castor poetry, Put your hands up

Put Your Hands Up

When life feels like a roller coaster
yanking and clanking you
far up steep climbs
only to be followed by
plunging
descents
over preposterous precipices,
and it is
a whole lot to take in,
with unexpected twists
at every turn,
plummeting,
whooshing,
dangling upside down
momentarily bat-like
before careening sideways…

Stop being white knuckled,
cease gripping so desperately,
abandon cringing,
and abstain from
the scream
and the tension…

Instead,
let go,
and yes,
you can do it,
put your hands up
all the way up.

Sit eagerly in the front row,
unequivocally trusting
the grand Designer
with both process,
and outcome,
even though you have no idea
what to anticipate
and you have no influence.

Your security doesn’t come
from a sense of control anyway
so proactively allow
the audaciously wild ride
into the unknown
to be fun,
welcoming it
as thrilling.
