I’ve wanted to paint this since taking a photo of this scene of ice and fog early one fall day along the Housatonic river. I loved the luminosity of the vibrant back-lit leaves contrasted with the cool periwinkle of the fog behind them, and how the ice on the rocks repeated the same color as the fog.

My brother-in-law gave me money for Christmas which I spent on professional lighting, so now I can paint in the evening! Once I got it set up this past weekend, I knew right away what my first image would be to paint.

Above is only a detail; please see the complete image below. Titled Early Autumn Ice and Fog, it is 12” x 16”, and is done in soft pastel on an archival sanded surface.
