Gleaning from New Pond Farm

Gleaning from New Pond Farm

gleaning

In the past we have been members of the CSA at New Pond Farm, but this year we grew our own instead. Still members and supporters of New Pond Farm, we got invited this weekend to come and pick some of their surplus before they rip out their garden for the season tomorrow. That seems early to us, but we are not ones to want fresh, good, free food to go to waste.

So in the spirit of those who “gleaned” in the Bible, we did just that yesterday, picking what we could use out of what was left in the fields. The day was gorgeous, as you can see in the photos below, and we came home loaded with produce. Mostly we took lettuce and kale, with a large quantity of green tomatoes that my husband is going to make into his famous Chow Chow (green tomato relish.)

What an abundance! We are grateful.
