Book Review: Orphan Train

Book Review: Orphan Train

Orphan train review

This is a quick and easy read. It is an interesting story of upheaval and resilience, even though the writing style is overly simplistic. It weaves the experiences of a 91 year old woman who had been a young girl on one of the Orphan Trains from New York City to Minnesota together with a goth foster kid in Maine who is trying to stay out of juvie. They find they have more in common than they expected.

If you are like me and don’t read ghost stories, don’t be put off by the language in the preface; this is not a ghost story. To me, it reads more like a Hallmark Hall of Fame special, which was enjoyable but not profound. Still, I mention it for anyone looking for a light read. I give it four stars.

I work to amplify good wherever I find it. I love color, texture, beauty, great ideas, nature, metaphor, deliciousness, genuine spirituality, and exploring new territory. I encourage authenticity, nurture creativity, champion sustainability, promote peace, and hope to foster a new renaissance where we all are free to be our most fulfilled, multifaceted, and terrific selves.
